I know at least one of you owns a lipstick 💄 in your favorite color. Some of you are obsessed with lipsticks like me! Some others love their textures. Shiny, matte, pearl, cream, or as simple as lip gloss. Other women are always looking for new lipstick trends to purchase! I remember when I was younger I heard my mother say many times, “I have to apply lipstick, I feel naked”. It’s like I can hear her now. Have you ever wondered when lipstick was created? Who were the first ones to wear color on their lips? Who invented the tube lipstick?

While looking for answers I discovered that the first lipstick was worn by men and women 5000 years ago in Sumerian, Mesopotamia. Even Cleopatra was a lipstick lover because red lipstick represented status in Egypt. You really don’t want to know what ingredients they used back then! In Greece, prostitutes wore red lipstick. They were required to wear it to not be confused with the upper-class women.

Queen Elizabeth, in 16th century England, revived red lipstick’s popularity with her signature look of alabaster skin with crimson lips. In 1923, the first swivel-up lipstick tube, the design still commonly used today, was patented by James Bruce Mason Jr. During WWII, metal tubes were replaced by plastic tubes.

Today we have so many styles, colors, and shapes of lipsticks, that you can wear a different color every day of the year!!! Can you imagine having 365 different colors of lipstick in your drawers?

Where has your lipstick taken you? What places? What adventures can you recall where you were wearing your best shade of lipstick?

I have a few stories to share and would love it if you can share your own stories as well.
